Our Story …

We're thrilled to announce that we're taking part in Mystery Box Rally 2026! This rally will have us driving a car that is 25 years or older along outback roads. We set off from Charleville & return to Charleville 5 days later, each day in between is a mystery, we have no idea where we will be headed until just before departure the next morning. It’s not just about the drive—it’s about making a real difference in the fight against cancer.

Every participating team is required to raise a minimum of $4,000. Every dollar raised goes directly to Cancer Council and helps fund vital cancer research, which is why we’re doing everything we can to hit our goal. Your support, whether big or small, will have a real impact.

Meet Chris O'Brian and Wayne Ward, proud Queenslanders and Indigenous residents of Northwest Queensland, born and raised in Cloncurry and Mt Isa. As Chris O’Brian being a cancer survivor and his partner Sissy Sealy also a survivor. Wayne and his partner Sheila Ward being close friends.

We dedicate this race not just for ourselves, but to honor the memory of those we have lost in their fight against cancer. Their courage, pain, and strength inspire us to keep pushing forward.

Cancer has touched each of our lives deeply, testing our resilience and challenging us to find strength amid pain. This journey is a tribute to their bravery and a call to continue fighting for a future without cancer.

We race with heavy hearts but unwavering hope—hope for a world where no more lives are lost, and every fighter’s courage is honored. This race is for their memory, their legacy, and the hope for a better tomorrow.

Together, we remember, we honor, and we race for those left behind.

Our team enters this rally driven by resilience and hope. Cancer has tested us with pain and uncertainty, but it has also revealed our true strength. We are survivors—a testament to the power of courage in the face of adversity.

Every mile we race is a tribute to those fighting their own battles, and a reminder that hope and determination can overcome even the hardest challenges. We stand united, not just for ourselves, but for everyone affected by cancer.

This journey is about more than racing; it’s about spreading awareness, supporting others, and showing that pain can forge unstoppable strength. We race for a future where cancer is defeated, and every survivor’s courage is celebrated.

Together, we are stronger and better than the disease. Together, we race for hope.

It was and has been a tough and challenging road to travel. With a great ending and triumph in the fight of beating this disease.

Our journey has encouraged and fueled our passion to compete in the 2026 Mystery Box Rally. We want to show support too our communities and raise awareness for this battle we all face.

Our team is called, Booze Boys, this is more than just a name, it represents what we stand for and believe. A symbol of resilience, unity, and hope.

As a team, Booze Boys embodies the spirit of friendship, family, and community. We celebrate life’s moments—sharing a cold beer, laughter, and creating memories that last a lifetime. We cherish the bond of friendship and the joy of enjoying good company, good food, and the simple pleasures of life.

Our team is about more than racing; it’s about togetherness, support, and having fun with loved ones—children, friends, and family alike. We stand proud of our roots, our culture, and the values that bring us together such as resilience and joy.

Booze Boys is a reminder to never take life too seriously, to cherish every moment, and to celebrate the strength of our community.

We’re here to support families and friends that are or have been affected by cancer. Also, we want to promote awareness, and advocate for better treatment and care.

Through this rally, we aim to shine a spotlight on the Mt Isa Cancer Unit, helping raise funds and awareness so that others have access to the vital services they need.

We’re driven by the strength of our Indigenous heritage and the deep connection to our land and people.

Join us in this adventure as we race for a cure, support our community, and honor the fighters and survivors among us. Together, we can make a difference in Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Queensland and beyond.

Here's what I'm doing …

Mystery Box Rally is a 5-day challenge like no other. Participants drive 25+ year old cars along a mystery route, through some of Australia’s most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It’s not a race—it’s a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.

Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that’s all part of the fun. The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way. And when the day’s drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day’s achievements.

This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways—whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we’ll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
