Our Story …
Just like Burke and Wills "heroic disaster" or David Livingstone setting off into the 1800's Southern Africa wilderness with little idea of what lurks ahead, Ben and Charl have formed a team, confidently named "The Ironeyes" and are preparing to embark on a great expedition… into the Australian outback.
As two self-proclaimed intrepid explorers—armed with questionable ability, a 56+ year-old dinkie-donk VW Beetle Cabriolèt, and an alarming amount of optimism—We have entered the infamous... 'Mystery Box Rally 2026'.
The expedition begins in the unforgiving Charleville, QLD desert and, with any luck (and mobile reception), will return 5 days later. Each day’s destination is a complete mystery, only revealed the moment it happens. So expect scenes of dramatic map-checking, confident wrong turns, and the occasional heroic breakdown as we boldly go where many story tellers have been before.
While this may be a story of two dusty adventurers, fearless pioneers, and possibly two blokes elbowed up in engine grease—the real mission is far more important with every misguided team being required to raise at least $4,000, and every dollar going directly to Cancer Council to fund vital cancer research. So while we’re out there testing the limits of personal friendship and mechanical fortitude, you’ll be helping fund life-saving work.

Here's what I'm doing …
Mystery Box Rally is a 5-day challenge like no other. Participants drive 25+ year old cars along a mystery route, through some of Australia’s most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It’s not a race—it’s a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that’s all part of the fun. The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way. And when the day’s drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day’s achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways—whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we’ll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
